Nut Butter And Gratitude In Troubled Times

Posted by Nick Sheridan on

Wow. What a tumultuous month this has been.

First and foremost, our hearts and our thoughts are with all those who have been directly affected by this crisis. Whether that be due to the health of you or a loved one being impacted by Covid-19, or your livelihood being disrupted by the resulting shutdown, we at 99th Monkey are thinking of you and are wishing for a speedy end to this all so that all of our lives can return to some semblance of normal.

Life has taken on a very different rhythm for us here at 99th Monkey HQ. Attention to good hygiene is standard practice for any food business, but we are now paying extra attention to all the details to make sure we do our bit in flattening the curve.

While it is hard not to feel anxious and stressed about all of the challenges and changes our society is facing right now, we are also extremely grateful for and humbled by the support we have received from our 99th Monkey community. We are also just so appreciative of the simple fact that we can continue to operate and do what we can to spread joy at this time of great uncertainty.

That means continuing to pay the utmost attention to making the best products we possibly can, and trying to have a bit of fun along the way. As mentioned, we are extremely conscious of the challenges and suffering that others are experiencing right now, so would never want to be insensitive to that, but we are also keen to focus on what we can do to help our community find some enjoyment in their lives right now. As such, we’re feeling somewhat vindicated to see that making nut butter is classed as an essential service (we always knew it was!)

Along with performing our core tasks and keeping our loyal community stocked with nut butters, we have not forgotten our dedication to doing what we can to address that other pressing existential challenge facing humanity: climate change. To that end, over the next few weeks we will be making our first offset instalment as part of our Nuts To Carbon initiative, whereby for every kilogram of nut butter we sell, we offset one kilogram of CO2 through our friends at With One Seed (read here for more details about how that works).

Thanks again to all of our monkeys out there – your support is appreciated now more than ever, and we hope that with our simple nut butters we can support you in some small way too as we all try to navigate our way through this era-defining crisis. We're all in this together.

All the best,

Nick Sheridan
