Stop Food Waste

Posted by Nick Sheridan on

Today is International 'Stop Food Waste Day'!

What is this?

It started in 2017 by a Compass Group USA, however it is now recognised globally.

The day falls on the last Wednesday of April and is all about igniting change and creating awareness of food waste.

Did you know?

Approximately one third of food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted globally. Food waste is central to some of the challenges that are occurring globally, around hunger and poverty.

Change

The mission of 'Stop Food Waste Day', is to create awareness of the issue and to draw attention to the problems it can cause. It also aims to educate the public through creative and practical ways that can be taken to stop food wastage.

Our Idea

In light of this day, we'd like to offer one creative way to stop food waste. It involves your nut butter jar!

You know that last little bit of your nut butter jar that you can't quite get to? Don't throw it away! Instead, it makes the perfect container for overnight oats/weetbix!

Heres the recipe:

RECIPE

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup oats (or 2 weetbix)
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 spoonfuls of yoghurt
  • 1/2 tbs chia seeds
  • 1/2 tbs maple syrup (or honey)
  • Optional toppings: sliced banana, nuts, raspberries, dried fruit, seeds

Method:

  1. Mix all ingredients together in the jar
  2. Place jar into the fridge and let it sit overnight or for at least 4 hours
  3. Then mix it up, add desired toppings and enjoy!

A nourishing and filling breakfast, snack, dessert or for whenever you desire!

AND you're using up every last bit of that nut butter in the jar! Therefore, you are not wasting the nut butter, and you are re-purposing the jar.

So spread the word!

Every little change counts.

Do your part today and stop food waste today!
