Delicious High Protein Snack Ideas

Snack cravings hitting hard? You’re not alone! Here at 99th Monkey, we’re all about #shnacks. Snacks have gotten a bad wrap in the health and fitness industry for some time now. However, what we now know, and am grateful for - are that not all snacks are made the same. Do you think the only options available when you are craving something salty are a bag of chips? Think again. What about when you need something to hit that sweet spot for the 3pm slump. Lollies? Chocolate? Nuuup. So, naturally we’ve been trying and testing all the snacks combos we can get our hands on.

Even with so many healthier snack options than ever before, there are many that are just trying to look the part but are hiding extra fat, added sugars and other unwanted ingredients. When choosing snacks, we’ve found keeping it simple and easy is the way to go. With some kind of high quality protein source to keep you satisfied and fuller for longer (trust us, this works) With all this in mind we’ve put together a list of our 7 delicious high protein snacks you can whip up to keep you snack happy all week round. From salty, to sweet, we’ve got you covered.

Fruit with Nut butter

When many of us think of a healthy snack on the go, we’re quick to reach for a piece of fruit. Which is great. The only downfall is that as fruit contains a high water content with fibre, it can leave you feeling hungry a few moments later. Don’t be quick to ditch the fruit, however. Pair it with a spoon or two of any 99th monkey nut butters and you’ve got a delicious, nutritious and NOW FILLING snack! The protein of the nut butter helps to keep you full through the day. Our favourite go-to at the moment is sliced apples and a spoon of our Natural Peanut Butter.

Vegetable Sticks with Nut Butter

Hear us out, vegetables make a GREAT snack, especially if you’re someone that likes to nibble and pick through the day. When they’re paired with the right sides, they’re also super filling and nutritious. The key is to find a combo you love! Our obsession is celery sticks with our Salted Natural Peanut Butter

Nut Butters

Did you really expect anything less from us?! As much as we love to use our 99th monkey range in our morning oatmeal, dishes, salad dressing and so much more but honestly, we just love to enjoy our nut butters by the spoon!

The different spread of nut butters offer just as much nutritional variety as well as they do flavour variety. There has been and still is a lot of discussion around if nut butters are actually good for you. Our nut butter range contains only minimal, clean ingredients. Full of protein, healthy fats and fibre to get you through the day and make that snack oh so much more satisfying and delicious.

Hummus and Crackers

This one is for our savoury lovers! Delicious, rich and creamy it can be used in a variety of ways. Not only does hummus taste great, it comes with an impressive list of benefits. Full of plant-based protein, vitamins and minerals we love to pair ours with whole grain crackers or organic corn chips. Even ripped up pita bread dipped in the tub will do us just fine! When choosing brands, as always make sure you check for minimal ingredients (the mains one being chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, salt and pepper etc) to make sure you’re fueling your body with the cleanest possible.

Protein Balls

Protein balls are one of the best grab and go snack especially post workout. Delicious, and when done or chosen right - full of plant protein! We love to whip up a batch of our own, full of peanut butter (yes you guessed it), dates, oats and protein powder. You can find heaps of recipes in our recipe section if you need some inspiration! However if you need to grab one from the supermarkets, make sure you’re checking the ingredients list to choose one that is right for you. As well as the ingredient list, added protein is always a winner - an important factor in your snack choice because it increases the feeling of fullness! (Again, we’re all about that quality protein!)

Nuts and Seeds

Again, a great grab and go snack to have on hand. A great source of fibre, protein and healthy fats and super convenient. Make sure when choosing, or creating your own you go easy on the dried fruit - this is where added sugars and ingredients could creep in!  We love creating our own full of almonds, cashews, chopped up protein bars, popcorn and dark chocolate.

Smoothies

One of our absolute favourites. Smoothies are great for when you’re feeling a little bit extra peckish, need a meal on the go, or post workout recovery go to. To build a high protein smoothie choose your base - bananas, berries, mango etc. Add in a protein powder of choice - this helps the most to keep you full through the whole day. Add a spoon of your favourite nut butter (We love using our 99th monkey Salted Natural Peanut Butter at the moment for a creamy blend). Pour in your milk of choice and blend! The sky is the limit with combinations, so you’ll have something on hand for every mood, every craving and every snack moment of the day!

As you can now see, there are endless amounts of high protein snack options that are delicious, full of quality protein and easily customisable to suit all your flavour preferences and cravings! We hope that we’ve given you heaps of delicious, high protein snack options! We’d love for you to share some of yours. Find us on socials for more ideas and we’ll see you there!
